Rik

Rik van der Ouw is a Rotterdam-based bassist, composer, arranger, and educator, known for his deep harmonic insight and his distinctive ability to carry and elevate any band from the low end. A versatile musician with a passion for groove, Rik is equally at home on electric bass, keys, and behind the score as a composer/arranger.

A graduate of Codarts – the conservatory of Rotterdam – Rik earned his degree cum laude in 2015. Since then, he has become a presence in the Dutch music scene, both as a bandleader and as a session player.

Rik is the bassist and founding bandleader of Marutyri, a critically acclaimed Rotterdam-based fusion ensemble. With Marutyri, he has toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada and south-east Asia, performing at major festivals and venues including the North Sea Jazz Festival. The band has appeared multiple times on national television, including the popular show De Wereld Draait Door, and their albums have received widespread praise for their musicianship and innovative sound.

As a session musician, Rik has played with a wide range of artists, bands and projects. He currently performs with Ntjam Rosie, Charl Delemarre, Dawn Patrol, and several theater productions, showcasing his adaptability across genres and formats.

Graduated from Codarts back in 2015. Rik is now one of the teachers of this conservatory, where he shares his experience and passion for music with the next generation of musicians.
